Easy French Toast

We had some left over french bread from our dinner last night so I thought I would use it to make french toast for breakfast.  The kids love it (mostly the maple syrup and butter) but it's a quick and easy dish to make.   We had to get a new stove a few years back and the model we chose has 5 cooking elements.  It's great because you can have a extra pot on, or a griddle.  Pretty much our griddle stays on there full time and that lessens the need for a griddle pan.
Here's what you need:
  • French bread cut into 1/2" slices
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Cinnamon
  • 1 tbl spoon vanilla extract
  • butter
  • pinch of salt
Mix the milk, eggs, vanilla, salt, cinnamon in a large bowl.  Turn on your griddle.   Whisk everything together.  A whisk that we use is a  Stainless Steel Ball Whisk.  It does the same thing, but it's cool looking.
Whisk everything together until it gets a bit frothy, then dip the bread slices in making sure they get completely covered.  Let them sit for about a minute.

Melt the butter on the stove then add the bread on top of it.  Let it cook for about a minute then flip it over making sure both sides get a nice even burn.
Remove from stove, place on plate with maple syrup, butter and powered sugar.  A sure hit with the kids!  (even if they only lick the syrup and butter off without eating the bread)
